 Heddy Abramowitz

BIO
Heddy Abramowitz is an artist working primarily as an observational painter with strong interests in drawing and photography. Born in Brooklyn NY, and long-term resident of Jerusalem, she has exhibited widely in Israel, including this years solo exhibits at the Tel Aviv Artists’ House and Artspace Gallery in Jerusalem (Manofim Project). Group
exhibits include two exhibits now traveling under the auspices of the Hebrew Union College-JIR Museum of Art, the Corinne Maman Ashdod Museum of Art, and the International Jewish Artist of the Year Award in London (2007) where she was a finalist. In 2004, she was an International Fellow at the Vermont Studio Center. Her work is included in the Permanent Collection of the Hebrew University. She blogs on culture and her 
perspective of life in the holiest of cities at 
"Golden Ochre: Art and Jerusalem" and Times of Israel. She remains optimistic and awed by the unfolding of life. 
 
STATEMENT
Part of the Crossroads Series, this painting depicts the zebra stripes of a street crossing as a symbol of the path of Halacha. The stripes bring to mind the rhythm of city streets, but are also evocative of The figure is shown at an angle, like a person falling or perhaps leaping. It is up to the viewer to 
decide if this is an act of desperation or an act of faith.Part of the Crossroads Series, this work shows a figure who has morphed from the human form of a figure in a black suit with tails flying in the air to a bird-like figure. 
The figure has come to the end of the path and now attempts to soar, yet the round figure is suspended - does the weightiness of life imperil it Do good intentions and
optimism sustain when the path ends abruptly? The enigmatic figure engages the viewer searching for an answer. An odd figure walks on the path designated as a safe conduit across city streets. The figure could be coming or going, and follows a narrow route - the goal is safety in traversing danger.
