BIO
Zavi Apfelbaum grew up in California where she began her studies in visual arts, later earning a degree in Visual Art and Psychology from Barnard College, Columbia University in New York. She made Aliya in 1990 where she continued her art education studying in various institutions in Jerusalem as well
as completing a master's degree in Communications and Journalism from the Hebrew University.  She continues to develop her art as she expresses her impressions and experiences in oil and is influenced by the pastoral views of the surrounding Judean Hills which she calls home, sculpting her vision as it evolves on the canvas in a melding of reality, impressions and emotion.

STATEMENT
The daily items with which we surround ourselves in our physical home and familiar landscapes that say to me "I am home" all contribute to my sense of space and identity. Everyday vessels used for the rituals of preparing a meal are rich with associations. In the still life series pots, bowls and cups
represent items of tradition, history and personal identity  â€“ some handed down from parents and in-laws, some chosen as I began my adult life and find my own voice,  and some acquired to mark important stations along the journey of  building my own sense of place and home.

In my work there is a resonance between the objects and myself, something that is straining to communicate and this subtle energy elevates the mundane and infuses it with meaning.
